Lord of the Rings and 4 Moons

Quadruple transit of Saturnian moons from Hubble: Titan (the orange one), Mimas, Enceladus (the one with ice volcanoes), and Dione. Saturn's rings will get tilted less and less over the next few months, and Earth will cross the ring plane in September.

That's no moon. It's a space station.

STS-119 flew around the international space station on March 25th, allowing us to admire the new solar panels (left side). Here's a sped-up version of the fly-around (in real-time, it took about 7 minutes). Looks like computer grahics, doesn't it?

Geology: It's a Blast

This undersea volcano erupted about six miles south of the island of Tongatapu (Tonga) on March 18th. The eruption was a simultaneous blast from two vents at once, which are probably linked somewhere in the shallow crust. A nice series of photos at Boston.com.

The Perfect Food

If you have a Trader Joes anywhere nearby, you must rush right out and purchase some Joe-Joes cookies. Drop whatever you are doing and jump in the car at once and go buy some. Yum. Alas, the candycane flavored ones are only available at Christmas time.
